Mt. Vernon shooting under investigation, two injured

MT. VERNON, Ill. (WJPF) – Police in Mt. Vernon are investigating a shooting that sent two people to the hospital.

At about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to the Westmont Apartment Complex on South 34th Street for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they found no victims or suspects, only shell casing in the parking lot. A short time later, police did receive word from Good Samaritan hospital that two people had been brought to the emergency department suffering from gunshot wounds.

A person of interest was briefly taken into custody, but they were later released.
