Illinois State Police car hit in Jefferson County construction zone

An Illinois State Police trooper’s squad car was hit in a construction zone in Mount Vernon.

It happened around 10:00 am Thursday on I-64 near milepost 72.

Police say the squad car was there to protect a construction crew, and was pulled over on the right side of the road with its flashing lights on. 

The driver, 52 year old Tracey Adams of Tulsa, Oklahoma veered off the road and hit the drivers side of the police car. 

The uninjured driver was charged with violation of Scott’s Law, and improper passing of an emergency vehicle – causing injury to another.

A person charged with the violation faces a fine of no less than $250 and up to $10,000 for the first offense. 

The trooper sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, and has been released.
