Jefferson County postal employee sentenced for mail theft

BELLE RIVE, Ill. (WJPF) – A Belle Rive woman has been sentenced to two years probation and ordered to pay restitution to her victims for stealing gift cards out of the mail.

Federal prosecutors say Casey Neal, 31, worked as a substitute sales and distribution clerk at the post offices in Belle Rive, Dahlgren, and Macedonia. In January and February of 2021, Neal stole over $300 worth of cash and gift cards from greeting cards that were sent through those post offices.

Neal used some of the money and gift cards to purchase money orders used to pay off her personal bills.
