Salukis receiving votes in multiple Top-25 polls

The Southern Illinois University softball program continues to receive votes in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Coaches Poll after going 5-0 at the Saluki Invitational last weekend to improve to 14-0 on the season.

Southern received 27 votes in Tuesday’s poll, which ranks 27th. SIU joins Louisiana (Sun Belt; No. 14) and UCF (AAC; No. 24) as the only non-Power 5 programs to rank in the top-30. Liberty (ASUN; No. 31) joins the trio in the Top-35.

SIU’s 23-game win streak is tied with No. 1 Oklahoma for the longest active win streak in the country. Southern first appeared in the NFCA Coaches Poll on Feb. 23, when they received two votes. The following week, SIU garnered 11 votes after a 3-0 showing at the Coach B Classic. The Salukis more than doubled their vote count Tuesday after its 5-0 week at the Saluki Invitational.

SIU also received a vote in the most recent ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top-25. The NFCA Top-25 Coaches Poll can be found here.
