Salukis Reel In First Recruit of 2020 in J.D. Muila

CARBONDALE — The first Saluki Basketball commitment of the 2020 offseason came Monday night in the form of J.D. Muila, a 6’8 forward from JUCO powerhouse Indian Hills.  Muila verbally committed to the program.

Muila is considered one of the best bigs in all of JUCO and is ranked as the 24th best JUCO prospect on the circuit.  Muila fits the Saluki program that Bryan Mullins is trying to build as he is a defense-first type of player, averaging 6.5 ppg and 6.8 rpg.

Muila is a physical presence in the post.  He is great at guarding ball screens, guarding on the perimeter, taking charges, walling up, and rebounding.  He can finish with powerful dunks on the offensive end.

Muila has suffered some injury woes in the past including a minor injury this past season, however he was fully cleared at the end of the year and was ready to help out Indian Hills CC in the NJCAA DI Tournament before it was canceled.

Muila is the third recruit that SIU has brought in for the 2020-2021 season.  He is the first forward, joining the likes of incoming freshman guards Dalton Banks and Eric Butler.  After five players announced they were entering the transfer portal, SIU now has five more scholarships to offer for the upcoming season.
