One arrested after Carbondale shooting, five hour stand off

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) — One person is under arrest after a shooting and then an hours stand off with police in Carbondale.

It started about 3:15 p.m. Monday in the 400 block of East Ashley Street when an argument in a parking lot escalated to gunfire. Nobody was hurt.

After the shooting, one of the armed suspects ran into an apartment in the 400 block of East Chestnut Street and refused to give himself up to police.

About 5 hours later, search and arrest warrants were secured. The Carbondale Police Department’s Special Response Team entered the apartment and took the suspect into custody without injury.

The suspect, who is not being identified at this time, has been charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.
