3 killed, 8 injured in Pope Count head-on crash

POPE COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) — Three people were killed, eight were injured in a crash involving a limousine and a sports car in Pope County.

It happened just before 3:30 AM Sunday on IL Route 34, about ¾ of a mile north of Williams Hill Road.

According to Illinois State Police, the driver of a Dodge Charger crossed the center-line and hit a Lincoln Limousine head-on.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. One of the nine limo passengers was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The remaining eight limo passengers were taken to regional hospitals for the treatment of their injuries.

The names of the victims have not been released pending family notification.
