BRADLEY, Ill. (AP) — Science class isn’t going to become cooler in a Kankakee County school district.
Voters in Bradley District 61 rejected a $10 million plan to upgrade three schools and add air conditioning. The proposal lost in a landslide: The Daily Journal in Kankakee says more than 65 percent of voters said no Tuesday.
Superintendent Scott Goselin says he’s disappointed.
Students have been sent home early eight times in the past two years because classrooms were too warm. The superintendent says Bradley schools over the last five years have averaged 55 days with outside temperatures exceeding 80 degrees.
Teachers have used fans and opened their windows, but those steps sometimes become distractions for students.
