For the first time in 4 years, we have a new project from the Australian artist. Survive the Summer was released over the weekend and features Tyga and Wiz Khalifa on two of the six tracks.
Azalea quickly made waves in the U.S when she was selected as the first woman and first non-American rapper to the XXL Freshman List in 2012.
After that, she continued to make waves when she signed an independent deal with T.I.’s Grand Hustle Records.
2013 saw the release of her EP Change Your Life which then followed with Azalea opening for Beyonce on the Australia leg of her 2013 tour.
Her hot streak continued when she dropped her debut album, The New Classic, in 2014. The album featured two huge hits including “Black Widow (feat. Rita Ora)” and “Fancy (feat. Charli XCX)”.
With the success of her debut album, Azalea was nominated for 4 Grammy’s in 2015 including: Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Rap Album.
Since then, Azalea has expanded her modeling career and was approved for permanent residence in the U.S. while releasing singles like “Team” and “Mo Bounce”. Will she ever get back to the mainstream success she found in 2014? We will have to wait and see.
